Long Term Project

I haven't been around for a while, and it's actually because I haven't knit anything in about 6 weeks. Maybe 8. I've been working on the same hat for all that time, and every time I sit down to work on it, I think I'd feel better lying down, and I do that, then I can't knit anymore, then I fall asleep.

And at least when I'm asleep I don't feel so nauseated and tired anymore. Or maybe I do, but I'm asleep so I don't know it.

But my absence from this space, and my lack of knitting, are both explainable.

I'm pregnant. 12.5 weeks. Due April 11. I'm excited, yes, but still feel sick enough that it's tough for me to make it through a work day. I've been sleeping on the floor in my office so that I can make it through my noon class. The exhaustion has been the hardest part for me to handle, since I'm used to being high energy, and I'm not used to collapsing on the couch at 5 pm. I'm told that this will pass, and that I'll start feeling better soon.

I have a pattern for a sweater that I'd like to make myself (from the cover of the latest Interweave). The sweaters at maternity stores are, no surprise, too short in the arms. And of course I'd like to make some hats and sweaters and booties for the baby, but I can't knit lying down (yet).

In any case, John and I are very happy (when we're not terrified) and I'm doing OK.

And in case you were wondering, I crave potatoes and mall Chinese food. Panda Express, actually. And the smell of coffee or fresh vegetables makes me sick.

What wonderful news! Congratulations!!
Yes, the tiredness (bone-deep exhaustion, why-won't-these-people-just-let-me- SLEEP???) WILL go away. Oh, and the feeling of being terrified gets worse. A lot worse. But then you realize that millions of other people have managed to raise children, so it can't be impossible. LOL!!

I echo Brita's comment, we definitely need more of your genes in the pool. A big congratulations and hoping the fatigue will pass...

Congrats! I'm so happy for you. Don't be terrified, but if you are - know it's natural. I just had a baby myself and we went through all kinds of emotions. :) He is wonderful and so worth it. :)
